What is sugar exactly?
I am pretty sure you all have heard of the term “sucrose,” which sounds very technical, at least to me, but it is simply the chemical name of Sugar. And Sugar is a simple carbohydrate. Yes, the one we love and even crave.
All green plants make sugar through Photosynthesis. Take a look at the picture above.
Sugar is simple. It is composed of two molecules. Glucose and fructose. There is another sugar form -Galactose. These three are the basic building blocks of all Carbohydrates. When they bond together they form more complex carbohydrates. The more complex the Carbohydrate is, the longer it takes the body to break down.
So, what happens when we eat simple carbs? The body breaks them down super fast and you get a crash. Meaning your energy level goes high and then it suddenly drops. You feel tired, groggy, you have a headache, your brain is foggy. So you take another bite or drink something sugary and the cycle repeats itself.
Think about it for a minute…..
How often do you skip breakfast, or drink coffee with a piece of pastry or multigrain toast? You, then go to work, and you either skip lunch or have a piece of greasy pizza. In the evening you get home and you are so tired that you eat the easiest thing for dinner. Something quick, maybe pizza again, or pasta, or even worse something that came from a box. (I’ll come back to the box)
Your body just went all day without proper nutrition.
Let me point out that food is information. Every single thing you eat tells your body how to function. And every single thing you eat is broken down and used to MAKE your body function properly.. Yes, I said MAKE. This means that if you go all day without proper nutrition your body will still (like an engine) work, but not at it’s best. Sooner or later the systemic damage caused-will surface. It may take years, but it will happen.
So, my question is… Why would we do that? Prevention is the best approach. You simply wouldn’t drive your car without proper levels of fluids for a long time because you know it would damage the engine and it could end up costing you a lot of money to fix. It is the same with the body.
When your diet mainly consists of fast burning carbs (pasta, bread, potatoes) or something from a box which I call “Chemistry projects” which consists of insane amounts of sugar and unable to pronounce chemicals your cells become desensitized to insulin, which means they need more and more to keep your blood sugar level in check. After a while they simply can’t keep up and you may become diabetic with elevated blood sugar, cholesterol and blood pressure.
The good news is that breaking free from this cycle is a lot easier than you might think.
Real Nutrition is the key. Start with all Natural Foods (Nothing from a box!)
